Some finished items.

So I actually finished a few items, since my post about starting the hat I have some finished items.

The Hat is done. Has been worn and is very effective against the sun (I do wear sunscreen on my face as well)  The pattern is Azealia from a recent Let's Knit magazine

Ruby Star Hat

Ruby star finished I'm slightly off my feet at the moment (I had x-rays today, the doctor thinks I may have broken something, now to wait for the results).  I decided that I would allow myself to start something once I had worked a bit on other projects.  The Three Tams Pattern had been on my queue for years and I think this variation was always going to be the one I was going to do.  I pulled some of my stash Aran Yarns and found a cream ball of Noro Cash Iroha  and a reddish ball of Noro Kureyon, and started working, two days ago...

Ruby Star Start Yeah, it's kinda addictive knitting, and I knit it two-handed, where you hold the yarn in each hand and throw with one hand and pick with the other.  I made myself learn this technique when I was doing one of the Art of Knitting Throws.  It's slow at first but you get used to it and it makes tensioning colour knitting a little easier for me.

The lower picture is in-progress.

I'd knit it again...

Saturday, 10 March 2012

I made myself some promises this year, to knit things that suited me and to try to ensure that I examined things while I knit them to ensure that they're actually good for me.  And then I spent the last two months doing a fair amount of knitting, so this is going to be a long post.

So far this year I've knit over 4km of yarn! I feel pretty chuffed with myself. I'm almost finished my Vog On socks, I got a chunk of them done during PCon last weekend and I'm happy with them.  The Nevada City Windows cardigan is almost there too. After that I'm going to go back to the Garter Stitch Cardigan and fix those damned sleeves

Sunflower Shadows

Finished another one

The Sunflower Tam from Norah Gaughan's Knitting Nature: 39 Designs Inspired by Patterns in Nature (UK Amazon) Knitting Nature (US Amazon) using some of the Malabrigo Worsted in the colourway Alpine Pearl. I spotted someone else had done this in Malabrigo and had gone down a needle size so I followed suit, and I like it. I had to do a little bit of tweaking to satisfy my sense of balance at the end, I omitted one of the moments where you move the marker for the start because it wouldn't have continued with the spiral.
I also significantly shortened the i-chord to about 2" or so, I actually knitted the 5" knotted it and realised that it was going to have a too-long tail so I ripped it back to almost where the knot was and the cast off so I'm not 100% sure how long it really is. I used about 60% of the ball.

Now to get finishing my Brigit Socks, I'm 2/3 of the way there with the second sock.

Hat Knit

Ireland had a cold spell recently and I was sick for a week which led to some knitting getting done.

In some yarn dyed by the Dublin Dye Company who sell through This is Knit This was an aran weight yarn that they don't really do anymore but it was fun to knit. Several people have asked me how I managed to get the variety of variagation on it, I just knit it straight from the ball and I love how it worked.
