I made myself some promises this year, to knit things that suited me and to try to ensure that I examined things while I knit them to ensure that they're actually good for me.  And then I spent the last two months doing a fair amount of knitting, so this is going to be a long post.

 So far this year I've knit over 4km of yarn! I feel pretty chuffed with myself. I'm almost finished my Vog On socks, I got a chunk of them done during PCon last weekend and I'm happy with them.  The Nevada City Windows cardigan is almost there too. After that I'm going to go back to the Garter Stitch Cardigan and fix those damned sleeves

Seaside Cardigan

It went into the washing machine today, finally. Yes, later it will go onto a drying rack but I wanted it to benefit from the good drying outdoors today.

Gauge Swatch and socks

After asking for help about what to knit in that aran yarn I found out that it looked best knit in 4.5 or 4mm needles NOT 5mm and while I did get gauge with it for Sea Breeze it just didn't look right to me.


is the gauge swatch 4mm to the left, 4.5mm in the middle and 5mm to the right. It was washed and the gauge checked after washing, I even put some clothes pegs on it to pull it down a bit.

So I had to find another pattern with smaller needles so I picked the Seaside Cardigan And am almost finished the shoulders and increasing part.

Today I finished the first of another pair of socks.



The yarn is called Hummel or Bumblebee and the pattern is called Green Merino Socks but I think it looks like honeycomb, I'm liking it, I think it will make me smile in the winter and think of warm summer days.

Moonstone

This was in The Knitter Issue 5 and I've been working on it on and off from last October.



I had to move up a needle size in the sleeves as they were very tight in the original needle size, I possibly should have gone back to the original size needle when I stopped knitting in the round but it's done now. All bar the buttons and I'm not sure that I really will bother. While it's a little short it will fit under my bike jacket.



The instructions for the collar were a bit too open to interpretation.

Rogue

Rogue is possibly one of the pieces that has been resting for the longest. I bought the pattern about 3 computers ago, I seem to recall printing it out on the desktop in our bedroom. I had the body of the piece sitting waiting for me to get the finger out and do the sleeves. I had decided to do it as a cardigan and without the hood as I'm not really a hood person. I inverted the

As one of the events in the Ravelmypics is to finish a WIP this seemed like a good opportunity and a great incentive to finish the damned thing. Especially as I really only had a small amount to do, the body is knit in the round and all I had to do was to knit the sleeves, sew the sleeves, sew in the hems and find a fastening for it. The hardest part was finding a fastening! Hickeys only had black frogging and while the one I found in the Dublin Woollen Mills is okay it's not absolutely what I wanted, still it's now finished and if I find something different I can use it to fix it. The collar also needs a little stitch or two to fasten them down.

New finish

A summer cardigan done in Tivoli's Linen/Cotton with a Tivoli Pattern, I knit it slightly shorter than the pattern to match the garment to the image on me. This has actually been on needles for AGES. I estimate at least 5 years, if not more.

I came across it recently and realised that all I had to do to finish it was to knit the rest of a sleeve and sew it up so I went back to it last week and bought the buttons today and attached them.
